Shenzhen Institute for Drug Control was founded in 1982 and added with the organization of ‘Shenzhen testing center of medical device in 2003. Our institute is a legal professional agency to make quality supervision and inspection of the medicinal products and do some scientific researches according to the national law. The test content includes six categories such as medicine, medical device, health food, cosmetics and clean room area, more than 1000 testing items. Our lab is authorized by the national authorization to undertake the tests and registration of proprietary Chinese medicines from Hong Kong or Macao Special Administrative Region.
As the dominant tone in the sign of Shenzhen Institute for Drug Control, blue stands for technology and innovation. The letter ‘C’ in the exterior deriving from the English word ‘Control’ means testing and in the inner region there are two capsules of chemical medicine making it clearer to send the industry attributes, which become the ‘comma’ representing sustained improvement and the connotation of ‘only comma in quality of drug safety, no period’.
Our institute sets four functional departments including office, quality assurance department, IT and equipment support departments and seven major professional and technical departments, among which there are medicine, health food, cosmetics, analysis and testing research, medical devices, medical packing materials and so on.
Shenzhen Institute for Drug Control puts the accent on personnel training and accelerating talents squad construction to build a younger and specialized team. Now our institute is comprised of 120 staffs including more than 80% of Bachelor or above ones, among which there are 8 doctors and 35 masters. Evaluation experts of the national medicine and health food, with part-time positions of professor, master supervisor and professional leader in this field have been key technicians in the inspection work area.
our institute has been equipped with some modern precision instruments such as the FT-infrared and Raman spectrometer, microbe/medicament analyzing system, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) in recent years. According to the quality policy ‘scientificalness, impartiality, quality and high efficiency’, In 2004, we first gained the Chinese laboratory accreditation in medicine inspection industry and the testing results acquired the international pass.
In addition, we established two public services platforms of drug safety evaluation and analytical and testing techniques open to the public. We also actively carried out the surveillance tests of all high risk drugs to promote the construction of the key lab of microorganism testing and good laboratory practice (GLP), so as to provide the substantial and reliable technological service for the development of the medical industry.
With the establishment of 17 screening methods for 8 classes of chemical substances like products of reinforcing the kidney- yang and promoting virility, sedative drugs, drugs for lowering hypertension and hyperlipidemia, products of reducing blood glucose level and losing weight and so on added in to the traditional Chinese medicine and health products by illegal means. Now we can screen more than 70 chemical substances. In recently years, we have published 300 papers in domestic and international famous journals such as Traditional Chinese medicine, Chromatography B, Molecules, Asia Magazine for Traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Chinese Herb Medicine, Journal of Shenyang Pharmaceutical University and so on, among which more than 10 papers are included in SCI. in addition, we have three patents of invention in China and one patent of international invention.
Shenzhen Institute for Drug Control has built up research study and intellectual fostering mechanism with some domestic and international famous colleges and universities like The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Macau, Dresden University, Case-Western Reserve University and so on. Besides, ‘postgraduates training base of Shenyang Pharmacy University ’ and ‘traditional Chinese research and development centre in Shenzhen base of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’ settled down in Shenzhen Institute for Drug Control one after another and developed the international cooperation project of ‘Traditional Chinese medicine marching into Europe-the quality control platform for application and development’ so as to established effective communications with university labs aboard. We also have widely promoted the establishment of the Postdoctoral Research Institute of developing new drugs and quality control.
